Life in the way of Life.
Going on a date with the boyfriend. We both have been so busy and stressed lately that today I asked him out on a date. He pointed out that life has been getting in the way of our relationship lately. Which really, with me staying so late at school grading and prepping, and him doing every ones taxes, life has gotten in the way. But its kind of sad that it took him pointing this out for me to...

The dangers of living with a first year teacher.
My boyfriend is sick and throwing up. He caught what I just had. He looks so pathetic sleeping on the couch. My poor babe.

Staying Positive.
I have been feeling a bit of a grump lately. So I decided to make a list of all the positive things that have made me smile lately.
I have a job. There are many of my friends still looking for teaching positions.
I have 2 adorable kitties that make my days brighter and don’t scratch or attack me. I have friends who have evil cats.
The adorably sweet valentines day card that my...

Seriously woman,
you deserve better.
I need friends who live near me. Or at least...
I’m kind of tired of always being the one that has to make the effort.
“I am broke/” the millions of other excuses I hear.
Blah, blah, blah…raddah raddah. Like I am in the best financial situation in the world? Like I was in the best financial situation last year/ this summer?
I student taught and worked 2 jobs to pay rent and eat yet I still managed to make the effort,...

What the Heck.
Me: What the heck is going on in here?
(Entire third grade class gasps.)
Third grade: She said it! She said the "h" word!
Me: Oh. Is that a bad word in here? I didn't realize.
Third grade: Wow. She said it.
This reminds me that I had a student tell me "Miss, (Blank: enter classmates name) said the "G-O-D" word not in prayer!"
I teach in a very super religious community.

My School/Principal are awesome.
He is helping me get a minibus to get the kids I entered into Youth Art Month to the Indianapolis State House on February 26th. This happens to be a Sunday, which the school system rarely lets Sunday events happen.
The school board is also honoring my kids and have asked me to come introduce them.
I feel so proud.

Today I begin working on some concept art for my friend Victor’s first venture into recorded music.

Sandy Update.
Sandy is awake and drinking/eating slowly. It pains her, but at least she is doing that.
About 75% of the tumor has been removed. Sandy is 11 so they couldn’t do major surgery on her, which was the option to remove the whole tumor. They are testing the cells to see if it is cancer. Until then, we all sit on pins and needles.

I am not sure to call it art about my work, or work about my art.
This night has taught me a bit of self discovery.
Although this year has been tough, most of the imagery that came from it has been positive.
In the end, even with the bad, I do love my job.

Democracy in Action
I felt so proud to be an American today. I was at Arts Advocacy Day at the state capital, but ran into A TON of anti-right to work protesters instead. There were so many people there from unions all over Indiana. It brought a tear to my eye.

On the weekend.
Every Sunday I will be teaching an art lesson to the girls I was a nanny for over the summer. They are home schooled, so really, they need an art teacher. I’m just that dedicated.
To recap, this week Obama:
mandigray:
-Made a decision that made it almost universally possible for women to get affordable birth control (Yay for women!)
-Rejected the Keystone XL Pipeline (Yay for the environment!)
-Denounced SOPA (Yay for the first amendment!)
-Sang Al Green (Yay for everyone)
Say what you want, I still believe in Hope.
Yuss.

Welcome to my igloo.
I am suppose to grade, but all I can think about is how freakin’ cold it is. My house is an igloo right now. I am waiting on the heating repair man who is suppose to be here in an hour. Conveniently I had the day off. Last night my boyfriend and I camped in the living room next to the fire place. It would have been romantic if I were not hurting from sleeping on the floor/ freezing my...

Teacher Grading Conundrum.
As I have said before, I see my students once every eight days. It is pretty hard for them to retain information. I gave my 3rd graders a test over our previous unit, which lasted about 7 weeks. Most of the kids BOMBED. Some did pretty good.
If I include the grade, it stresses the importance of retaining the information they learn in art.
If I exclude the grade, the kids grades improve...

The never ending pile.
I have felt like super art teacher this past week. I am trying to get symphony of color done. Not only have I been making my kids work super hard during class, I have been spending my prep times and my lunch times in my room working with kids to get their projects super amazing. I have had kids come down during my other classes as well, so my room has been packed. Luckily the teachers have...

Wings would be much more helpful.
I know I have been kind of so so on this but this year has just been overly overwhelming. Today I got home and I cried (ugly cried) for about 10 minutes while hugging my boyfriend. Sometimes I wonder if I am cut out for this. I know that I am….I think…I guess… It’s just that lately I have been so frustrated with everything. I really wish I didn’t feel like I was...

New Years Goal
Okay I have decided what to do as my New Years Goals.
I am going to be a better teacher and write out plans ahead of time.
I am going to be more patient and more kind to my family.
I am going to be more honest with my feelings and pour all of my love and devotion into those that I share this life with.
